Former Prime Minster of The Bahamas

Dr. Hubert Alexander Minnis is a physician, politician, and former Prime Minister of the Bahamas. As the leader of the Free National Movement (FNM) he succeeded Hubert Ingraham as the party leader in 2012.

Born in Bain Town, Grand Bahama, Dr. Minnis attended St. Augustine College and obtained his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of the West Indies and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1985.

Dr. Minnis worked as a physician, a consultant, and Deputy Chief of Staff for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Princess Margaret Hospital. He was president of the Medical Association of the Bahamas and was appointed Minister of Health in 2007.

Dr. Minnis is married to Sybilene Patricia Beneby and is the father of three children. His son, Jamil, is also a physician.
