Sailor, Olympian, Philanthropist
Born November 2, 1917 Sir Durward Randolph Knowles is an Olympic gold medalist and a Bahamian sailing legend.
During the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, he won a gold medal in the Star class sailing competition with teammate Cecil Cooke.
Knighted in 1996, and awarded the Bahamas’ Order of Merit in 1997, he has enjoyed an illustrious career as an athlete, but also as a humanitarian.
One of his most prized achievements is being awarded Rotary International’s highest honour, the Service Above Self Award, given in recognition of exemplary humanitarian service.
